Annual “5 Steps to Safer Health Care” campaign kicks off with PSAW March 8-14

Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy announces that its TakeCHARGE Campaign: 5 Steps to Safer Health Care will launch a sixth season in 2026 during Patient Safety Awareness Week, March 8-14.
Patient Safety Awareness Week (https://www.ihi.org/partner/initiatives/patient-safety-awareness-week) is supported by the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. In 2020, Pulse started the TakeCHARGE Campaign as a public-awareness campaign teaching people how to take more responsibility for themselves by completing five essential steps that will help make their medical care safer. The founders of TakeCHARGE encourage use of the tool by young people leaving home, to become better prepared for the day they become patients.
“The healthcare industry works toward patient safety,” explains Pulse President and founder Ilene Corina, one of the people who started Patient Safety Awareness Week, “but real improvement also depends on engagement by individuals and families.”

TakeCHARGE has been promoted by The Joint Commission and by a number of community-based patient advocacy groups around the country.
