Pulse Center for Patient Safety and Sleep in Heavenly Peace Collaborate to Give Local Children Bedding for Newly Built Beds

Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy is happy to announce that its upcoming comedy fundraising event will include a unique collaboration with the charity Sleep in Heavenly Peace, (https://shpbeds.org/) collecting bedding to distribute to children in need.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace is a nationwide volunteer organization that builds beds for children who don’t have any. The idea of adding this bedding drive to Pulse’s popular comedy night came from Ilene Corina, President of Pulse Center for Patient Safety, when she heard about the organization from Bill Wasserberger, a supporter of the charity.
Corina met Wasserberger, VP of Sleep in Heavenly Peace and Account Manager of The Country Printer, Long Island, NY at a networking event organized by David Gussin and his company 516 Ads. Gussin is a long-time supporter of Pulse and other Long Island charities.
Corina recognized that children who are sick or returning home from the hospital need to have a bed. “I had no idea that there is a shortage of beds for children,” Corina explained. “I’m confident that doctors don’t ask about a bed when a child is being released from the hospital or going for a well visit.”
Corina and Wasserberger quickly saw a mutual opportunity in Pulse’s annual fundraising event, a night of comedy, food, drink and raffles to be held this year on September 27 in Bellmore, NY.
Sleep in Heavenly Peace volunteers build the beds but they need bedding, and anyone attending the comedy night who donates new wrapped bedding for a standard twin bed will receive a ticket for the many raffles that will round out the evening.
Medical error is one of the leading causes of preventable death in the US, and Pulse CPSEA is the nation’s leading grassroots patient safety education group. Pulse is now in its 30th year of teaching the public how individuals and families can help make their health care safer.
