TakeCHARGE Ambassador Adam Gross BCPA from Peak Health Advocates and a member of Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy, presented The TakeCHARGE Campaign: 5 Steps to Safer Health Care to a select audience at the Goodnow Library in Sudbury, MA on Saturday, April 18 2026.
The TakeCHARGE annual public awareness campaign was launched by Pulse in 2020. It builds on five basic steps anyone can take that will help improve the safety of their health care. See them at www.takecharge.care.

“The Twizzler tip got a good reaction,” says Gross. “An attendee gave me the perfect lead-in because she asked what to do if doctors say ‘No’ when asked to wash their hands for the patient.”
He’s talking about a technique invented by Pulse president Ilene Corina. When a clinician says, “I already washed” she offers them a Twizzler or other wrapped candy as a jokey enticement to do it again. It works.
“At the end the audience participated in reviewing the five steps,” says Gross. “One of the attendees had a great example of how he prepares for medical visits - readying questions, printing them out, handing them to staff, and not leaving until they're answered!”
Pulse thanks the Goodnow Library for hosting. (https://goodnowlibrary.org)
