In this two-day course you will learn about patient safety and the many ways patients and their support teams can be involved in reducing medical errors.

Kristen Miller DrPH, MSPH, MSL, CPPS

Kristen Miller, DrPH, MSPH, MSL, CPPS, is a Co-Director at MedStar Health Center for Diagnostic Systems Safety and Senior Scientific Director at MedStar Health National Center for Human Factors in Healthcare. She's also an Associate Professor of Emergency Medicine at Georgetown University School of Medicine and Affiliate Faculty at Georgetown Innovation Center for Biomedical Informatics. Kristen specializes in human factors research, focusing on diagnostic safety, decision-making, informatics, and healthcare delivery interventions, collaborating with various stakeholders.

Helen Haskell

Helen Haskell, a leading patient safety advocate, has dedicated herself to improving healthcare since her son's tragic medical error death in 2000. She spearheaded legislative efforts in South Carolina, resulting in the Lewis Blackman Patient Safety Act and various initiatives. Her advocacy extends globally, serving on WHO advisory groups and as a senior fellow at the Institute for Healthcare Improvement. Recognized for her contributions, Helen is also an accomplished author and educator, with her impactful video "The Lewis Blackman Story" widely used in medical education.

Caryn Isaacs

Caryn Isaacs, an original private professional patient advocate, coined the term in 1976. With extensive experience in healthcare, including executive roles in health insurance and leadership in health reform, she founded GetHealthHelp, LLC to assist individuals navigating the complex healthcare system. Caryn's latest project, Aging Icon, promotes the wisdom of accomplished adults through a social media campaign. She engages groups in interactive sessions to discover the Aging Icon within ourselves.

Pulse program, 'Family Centered Patient Advocacy Training and Support (2-day event)' is approved for 7.5 General CEs, 4.5 Ethics CEs, and 2 JEDI CEs by the Patient Advocate Certification Board to satisfy the requirements for Board Certified Patient Advocates (BCPA)
