Susan Artz Okun, LCSW
Ilene Corina, President
Ilene Corina is the President and founder of Pulse Center for Patient Safety Education & Advocacy. She is a patient safety educator, trained in mediation and received a full scholarship as a Fellow with the American Hospital Association/ National Patient Safety Foundation Patient Safety Leadership Training. She is trained at AHRQ Shared Approach, LGBTQ Health and Cultural Competency and Health Literacy. She was a board member of The National Patient Safety Foundation from 2002 to 2017 and presently a board member of The Joint Commission. Ilene still regularly visits patients at the bedside and works with families in the classroom or at the bedside to become advocates. She teaches patient safety advocacy and speaks regularly about unconscious bias in healthcare.
Oscar Bruce "Bruce"
Community Organizer Oscar Bruce, a Long Island native and recent graduate of Baruch College, majored in Public Affairs with a minor in African-American & Latino Studies. He previously interned at Hunger Free America and in the New York State Senate in Albany, and is also a spoken word artist. Bruce oversees the ASK For Your Life Campaign.
As Director of Communications, David Halperin is Pulse's resident wordsmith and photo editor. His 40 years of national and international experience as journalist and editor help him communicate Pulse’s patient safety message effectively to the widest possible audience. David was born and educated in the U.S. (Hamilton College, BA Eng. Lit.) lived in Europe and the UK for 10 years and in Australia for 22 years, and now holds dual Australian/U.S. citizenship.
